Trump’s Ominous Return to the Former Twitter
Trump was banned from the Twitter platform when, after the January 6, 2021 insurrection, he no longer had a place on social networks, and the administrators of various platforms were forced to ban him from participating on these platforms.
He launched his own social network and established a media company to manage this platform, finding a good position among his supporters. That company has no revenue and has recorded successive losses. Elon Musk, by purchasing Twitter for over 40 billion dollars, made a significant transformation in this platform and, by changing its name, reopened the way for extremists, racists, and conspiracy theory supporters to this platform.
Despite Musk’s invitation for Trump to return, Trump, who has his own platform, showed no interest. The key point about these two individuals is their mutual hatred over the past years. Trump hated Musk and openly insulted and belittled him.
Musk was perceived as a liberal and progressive thinker, actively supporting clean energy and electric vehicle production. This image of Musk was actually raw and vague because Musk had spoken less about social and racial issues, and suddenly revealed his true self by becoming a supporter of extremists. This event, hosting Trump’s account on the former Twitter, marked Trump’s debut on the X platform and, like the event Musk arranged for Ron DeSantis, was accompanied by numerous technical issues and delays in starting the program.
More than 15 million listeners tuned in at the peak of the program to hear the two speak, although there were naturally significant drops in the audience numbers. Musk, facing issues once again, blamed hackers for the technical problems. This conversation was meant to present a positive image of Trump and somewhat rehabilitate his reputation, but despite a softer tone, Trump continued his insults towards others and his usual disjointed remarks about Harris.
Even Musk’s attempt to present a better image of Trump by steering the discussion towards clean energy and electric vehicles led nowhere. Trump said these things have no place in his world, mocked Musk, and said he is waiting for Tesla to install solar batteries on the roofs of its vehicles. Trump will soon hold his large campaign rallies in key states and will return to Pennsylvania, a state where his famous rally was cut short by an attempted assassination.
