Turkey’s local elections: Erdogan’s political showdown with Imamoglu and the New Welfare Party
The Justice and Development Party had carried out extensive advertising on various networks and throughout the city for its grand gathering on the fifth of Farvardin in Istanbul. However, the night before the event, the venue was downsized with scaffolding due to the anticipated low attendance.
This action was evident because Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey, complained in his speech at the event, stating that there was a time when over a million people would come to this square, and today only 650,000 have come.
According to the Turkish President, their rival in this election is the Republican People’s Party and Ekrem Imamoglu, the current mayor of Istanbul.
