Turkey’s Reaction to the Docking of a US Submarine in Cyprus
In a statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed support for the position of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus regarding the docking of a US submarine in the Greek-administered part of the island. It stated that the actions of the United States, at the cost of disrupting the existing balance in Cyprus and encouraging the Greek Cypriot side to increase its military power, will not contribute to regional stability or a sustainable and just resolution of the Cyprus issue.
Ankara called on the United States to reconsider its recent policies in Cyprus and emphasized that Turkey will continue to firmly support the rights and interests of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus under any circumstances, as one of the guarantor countries.
It is noteworthy that the US attack submarine USS San Juan docked at one of the ports in the Greek-administered part of Cyprus two days ago.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus strongly condemned this action in a statement.
