Turkish Foreign Minister: Expanding nuclear talks to include Iran’s missile program could lead to war
The Turkish Foreign Minister has stated that it seems the United States and Iran are ready to reach a nuclear agreement, but including Tehran’s ballistic missile program in the negotiations could increase the risk of a new conflict.
Hakan Fidan, on Thursday, February 11, in an interview with the Financial Times, said that the Americans apparently are ready to accept Iran’s enrichment within specific boundaries, but the missile issue could seriously challenge the agreement process.
Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, has emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s missile weapons are not and will not be a subject of negotiations with the United States.
On the other hand, the President of the United States reiterated on Tuesday night that Iran wants to reach an agreement with Washington but clarified that in his view, a desirable agreement is one where Iran does not possess nuclear weapons and missiles.
