Twitter Storm in Support of Saman Yasin
A large number of Twitter users launched a Twitter storm on the evening of Sunday, April 16, in support of Saman Saidi Yasin, an Iranian rapper.
Saman Yasin was arrested last October for posting messages in support of nationwide protests.
Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Republic’s judiciary, reported on October 29 about the court session for several detained protesters, including Saman Yasin, and announced that the rapper was charged with ‘moharebeh’ (waging war against God).
At the same time, state media published images of the rapper’s forced confessions and wrote that he was accused of ‘moharebeh’ and ‘gathering and colluding with the intent to act against national security.’
Coinciding with the Twitter storm, a video of Saman Yasin’s mother was shared on social media, in which she calls for public and human rights activists’ support for her son, saying, ‘I am a heartbroken mother, for God’s sake, help my son.’
During his detention and trial, Saman Yasin was deprived of having a lawyer and meeting with his family.
