Two Iranians are being tried in Sweden on charges of espionage

A court in Sweden began the trial on Friday of two Iranian-born brothers accused of a decade of espionage for Russia and its military intelligence agency.

According to the indictment issued for Peyman Kia, 42, and Payam Kia, 35, they provided information to the Russian military intelligence agency known as GRU from September 28, 2011, to September 20, 2022.

According to Sweden’s domestic security agency, Peyman Kia worked for the organization between 2014 and 2015 and had previously worked for the country’s armed forces.
