Two Major Opponents to Branko’s Coaching in the National Team
When the national team’s qualification for the 2022 World Cup was confirmed, many people raised the issue that a coach bigger than Dragan Skočić should sit on the national team’s bench. Ultimately, this demand by the critics was implemented, and Carlos Queiroz was appointed as the national team’s head coach by Mehdi Taj, just two months before the World Cup.
An informed source reported that the discussion of Branko’s presence in Iran’s national football team was raised in the board members’ meeting. However, considering that he has a contract with the Omanis until the end of the 2023 Asian Cup, and on the other hand, the Oman Football Federation is not willing to terminate Branko’s contract at this time, this request could bring heavy financial consequences for the Iranian Football Federation.
We also heard that Branko Ivanković has two serious opponents in the federation and the national team. The first is a well-known and influential legionnaire in the national team who does not want the Croatian man to become the head coach of Iran.
The second is a highly influential figure in the football federation who is strongly opposed to Branko’s coaching in Iran’s national team.
