Two power plants in Iran have been decommissioned
The Payam-e Ma newspaper reports that two Iranian power plants have been decommissioned due to overproduction. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy has announced the possibility of breaking the country’s historical electricity consumption record due to rising temperatures this week.
On Tuesday, August 1, the newspaper quoted an informed source close to the Ministry of Energy, whose name was not disclosed, saying that in addition to the intense heat, reduced electricity production was also a reason for the government’s decision to close on Wednesday and Thursday, August 2 and 3.
Ali Bahadori Jahromi, the spokesperson for Ebrahim Raisi’s government, wrote in a tweet on Tuesday that this decision was made considering the unprecedented heat in recent days and upon the proposal of the Ministry of Health.
The source from Payam-e Ma newspaper said that the intense heat and increased electricity consumption in recent days caused the hydroelectric power plants at Karun Dams 3 and 4 to produce more electricity than their capacity. These power plants have sometimes produced electricity for more than twenty hours a day, leading to a decline in water resources.
