Two-Year Sentence for Chanting in Front of Prison

Two-year sentence for chanting slogans in front of the prison

Mehdi Gholian, the brother of Sepideh Gholian, wrote in an Instagram post that his sister has been sentenced to two years in prison for a slogan she chanted after her release.

Ms. Gholian had been imprisoned since 2018 and was released at the end of last March after completing her sentence. However, after a video was released of her chanting a slogan against Iran’s leader in front of the prison, saying ‘Khamenei, we will bury you under the ground,’ she was re-arrested the same day, hours later.

Mehdi Gholian, the brother of this civil rights activist and political prisoner, wrote on his Instagram page, ‘Yesterday we found out that Sepideh has been sentenced to two years in prison again, which means starting over something that had just ended. Since autumn 2018, we have seen Sepideh behind bars and in exile.’

In the notification image previously published on Ms. Gholian’s brother’s Instagram page, her charge is stated as insulting the leader.

Ms. Gholian had previously said she would not participate in any court and does not recognize the issued verdicts.
