The UK Parliament warned about the transnational threats of the Islamic Republic of Iran
The UK Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights, in a recent report, identified the transnational repression by the Islamic Republic alongside China and Russia as one of the biggest security threats against journalists, political activists, and members of immigrant communities in the UK.
The report also listed other countries such as Bahrain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Eritrea, and Rwanda as governments that have systematically attempted to suppress and threaten their opponents in the UK in recent years.
According to the findings of this parliamentary committee, the Islamic Republic of Iran poses the highest level of threat of abduction and assassination against individuals residing in the UK among all countries engaging in transnational repression.
The UK Home Office’s internal security group, in a confidential report to this committee, stated that Iran’s physical threat against UK residents is the most serious security threat posed by a foreign government.
The report mentioned that the tactics used by the Islamic Republic include planning and executing assassination plots, direct physical attacks, intimidation of families, confiscation or seizure of property, staging show trials, spreading damaging information, harassment and online attacks, digital espionage, hacking, leaking personal information, and identity forgery.
