Ukraine’s Political Ties with Iran Begin to Sever
As news of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure and cities, targeting Ukrainian civilians, is accompanied by Iran’s prominent role in military cooperation with the Russian army, Western countries have intensified their efforts to confront Iran in this regard. Switzerland is among the countries that have officially announced new sanctions against Iran due to the violent crackdown on protesters and the death of Mahsa Amini. However, specific military and sanction plans against Iran for its military assistance to Russia have not yet been announced. The Ukrainian government, aiming to inform its Western supporters of the impact of Iran’s involvement in the attacks against it, is seeking to sever political ties with Iran, as announced by the country’s foreign minister, and this proposal has been submitted by the foreign ministry to the President of Ukraine.
