Ukrainian drone attack causes damage to several refinery tanks in Russia

Russian officials announced on Thursday, May 9, that a Ukrainian drone attack on a refinery in the city of Salavat, located in the Republic of Bashkortostan, caused damage to oil facilities, including a pumping station.

According to AFP, citing a Ukrainian security official, this drone attack was planned and executed by the Security Service of Ukraine. It was unprecedented due to the 1,500-kilometer distance the drones traveled to reach the target. The unnamed security official added that two oil tanks in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia were also targeted by drone attacks.

The Russian Emergency Management Department claimed in a statement on Telegram that the drone attack on the Salavat refinery did not lead to a fire or casualties. According to the Russian news agency Interfax, black smoke from the attack was visible over part of the refinery. Local authorities claimed that the attack did not disrupt the refinery’s operations.
