UN: Gaza civilians likely to face hunger soon
The United Nations World Food Programme says nearly the entire 2 million population of Gaza is in dire need of food aid and warned that civilians are likely to face hunger soon.
This UN agency states that its bakeries are no longer operational due to a lack of fuel, and only a quarter of food stores are open, with the limited available food being sold at exorbitant prices.
The shortage of fuel and electricity means cooking has become impossible for many. The World Food Programme says the lucky ones are eating canned foods, but some survive on raw ingredients they can find, such as onions and eggplants.
Cindy McCain, the executive director of this agency, said there is currently no border crossing available to address the hunger needs. She called for the opening of another accessible point for aid.
