The United Nations Press Freedom Prize was won by Niloofar Hamedi, Elahe Mohammadi, and Narges Mohammadi.

The United Nations announced on Tuesday night that Niloofar Hamedi, Elahe Mohammadi, and Narges Mohammadi won the organization’s most prestigious award in the field of press freedom for their commitment to truth and accountability.

The awarding of the Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize was announced at a ceremony organized by UNESCO.

Tawfik Jelassi, head of UNESCO’s communications office, the United Nations’ cultural, scientific, and educational agency, announced the winners and said that UNESCO hopes to soon present this award in person to these three brave journalists when conditions allow.

He added that UNESCO hopes this award will not only highlight the professional efforts of these three female journalists but also lead to international action to ensure the freedom of journalists, especially female journalists, to speak truth to power, such as exposing corruption and human rights violations.
