UN Reporters Express Concern About Poisonings

Eight United Nations reporters on Thursday, March 16, expressed grave concern over the suspicious poisonings of students in Iran, stating that women and girls in Iran are once again the targets of the worst forms of discrimination and systematic violence.

In a statement, these UN reporters condemned the deliberate poisoning of girls in various cities across Iran and the government’s lack of support for them, the prevention of further attacks, and the swift conduct of investigations. They wrote that there is a stark contrast between the swift arrest of protesters during the nationwide protests in Iran and the months-long inability of the Islamic Republic to identify the perpetrators of these poisonings.

Despite the Iranian government’s announcement of arrests related to the suspicious poisonings of students after a three-month delay, the government has yet to reveal the identities of the perpetrators of these attacks and has instead pressured those protesting the government’s handling of the situation.
