The UN Secretary-General: The Russian Agricultural Bank can apply to rejoin the SWIFT system

Reuters revealed that on August 28th, the UN Secretary-General informed the Russian Foreign Minister in a letter that the Luxembourg branch of the Russian Agricultural Bank could apply to rejoin the international SWIFT payment system.

The letter stated that SWIFT has confirmed that the bank is allowed to rejoin the payment system for transactions related to food and fertilizer and can submit its application within 30 days.

In his letter, António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, suggested that the Luxembourg branch of the Russian Agricultural Bank act as an intermediary between global financial institutions and the main bank in Moscow, transmitting financial messages to global banks using SWIFT and facilitating the reverse route into Russia.
