UNICEF expresses concern over attacks on schools in Iran
The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has called for an end to all forms of violence and abuse against children in Iran.
In this statement, reference is made to reports of more than 50 children killed in the recent protests in Iran, and it states that UNICEF is deeply concerned about raids and inspections in some schools in Iran. Schools should always be a safe environment for children.
Student protests continue in various cities in Iran, both in schools and on the streets. According to reports, plainclothes and Basij forces have repeatedly attacked schools and detained an unknown number of students.
In this statement, UNICEF called on Iranian authorities to respect the fundamental right of children to peaceful assembly. Regardless of who they are or where they are, children should remain in their families, communities, and schools, and not in places where their freedom is taken away.
