UNICEF: Over 100,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah
The United Nations announced today, Friday, May 10th, that over one hundred thousand Palestinians have fled Rafah, the second largest city in Gaza, and its surroundings. This southern city of Gaza remains under threat of a full-scale Israeli ground invasion.
This news was announced by the senior emergency coordinator of UNICEF in the Gaza Strip during a press conference in Geneva via video conference from Rafah.
Many around the world, including countries such as the United States, fear that a full-scale Israeli ground attack on Rafah will worsen the already dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
Israel had previously declared southern Gaza as safe and had asked residents of the northern part of the strip to move to the declared safe areas in the south.
