The President of the University of Tehran: We have no dismissed professors at the University of Tehran.
Seyed Mohammad Moghimi, the President of the University of Tehran, stated that an inaccurate statistic was published regarding the claim of professor dismissals for the University of Tehran and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which was not clear for which university it was. We have never had an inappropriate approach towards professors and academics at the University of Tehran, and no punitive action has been taken against any students, staff, or professors who are politically and socially critical in relation to their activities. At the University of Tehran, not only is there no inappropriate action taken against critics, but an environment is provided for criticisms to be expressed. In fact, we have established mechanisms for critique at the University of Tehran.
He further said, ‘I have always said that we have no dismissed professors at the University of Tehran because dismissal has its own specific meaning. When the claim of professor dismissal is mentioned, it means that a professor’s contract with official employment at the University of Tehran is unilaterally terminated for various reasons, and such a thing has not happened at the University of Tehran in the past 25 years.’
The President of the University of Tehran continued, ‘I hereby declare that I am ready, if any adjunct lecturer or contractual faculty member claims that they were dismissed from the University of Tehran due to political criticism or specific political inclination, to personally hold a meeting and debate with the presence of any media the professor specifies, and examine the professor’s claims based on real documents and evidence. If the claiming professor wishes, I will transparently state the real reason for the termination of collaboration, and I assure you that if I share the reasons for the termination of collaboration with some of them with the media and public opinion, the university stakeholders will demand judicial and legal action against them.’
