The US approved the sale of Abrams tanks to Bahrain
On Tuesday, the United States approved the sale of advanced tanks worth $22 billion to Bahrain, its ally on the Persian Gulf, which was once under arms sanctions for suppressing protesting Shiites.
The US State Department announced that it has informed Congress that it is ready to sell 50 M1A2 Abrams tanks to Bahrain, a country that has had tense relations with Iran.
The US Congress can still block the sale of these weapons to Bahrain, although it often approves military deals.
Abrams tanks, which are the heaviest tanks in the world, are considered among the main weapons of the US military.
The US State Department also stated that it will send around 30 contractors and one government official to Bahrain to train on the use of these tanks.
