US Deputy Defense Secretary: Iran is 12 days away from building a nuclear bomb

A US Department of Defense official has stated that Iran could produce the necessary nuclear material for a bomb in about 12 days.

According to Reuters, Colin Kahl, the US Deputy Defense Secretary, in a session in the House of Representatives, responded to Republican representatives’ questions about why the Biden administration wants to revive the 2015 nuclear deal. He said it’s because Iran’s nuclear program has made significant progress since we left the JCPOA. In 2018, when the previous administration decided to exit the JCPOA, it would have taken Iran about 12 months to produce enough nuclear material for a bomb. Now, it takes about 12 days.

Mr. Kahl added, therefore, in my opinion, there is still a view that if this issue can be resolved through diplomacy and Iran’s nuclear program can be contained again, it is better than other options. However, the JCPOA is currently in a state of suspension.
