Reuters reported that American forces stationed in Iraq and Syria were targeted by two separate rocket and explosive drone attacks in less than 24 hours.
These attacks, according to Iraqi security sources and American officials, are the first instances of attacks on American forces in the region after an almost three-month hiatus.
Reuters reported on Monday, April 23, quoting an American official, that at least one drone was fired towards the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq’s western Anbar province, where American forces are stationed.
Prior to this attack, on Sunday night, five rockets were also fired from northern Iraq towards one of the United States military bases in northern Syria.
