US Foreign Agents Law Approval Calls for Policy Change in Georgia

Approval of the Foreign Agents Act by the US urged Georgia to change its policy

The approval of the so-called Foreign Agents Act by the Georgian Parliament has sparked not only domestic protests but also international criticism. The US government has asked Georgian officials to change the political path they have taken according to this legislation.

Vedant Patel, spokesperson for the US State Department, has stated that from our perspective, the Georgian government should change the path it is on.

Patel also referred to surveys indicating that 80% of the Georgian people want the country to join the European Union. He also stated that the Tbilisi government has expressed its desire to join the EU and establish relations with transatlantic institutions like NATO.

The US State Department spokesperson said that issues like this law are not compatible with these goals.
