Heavy American bombers stationed at a British base
In the past 72 hours, the United States has stationed several B-52 and B-1 bombers at the Royal Air Force Fairford base in Britain, an action occurring for the first time during the ongoing war.
Aerial activity at the Royal Air Force Fairford base in Gloucestershire, Britain, has significantly increased over the past 72 hours, and three B-52 bombers landed at this base this morning.
This is the first presence of B-52 bombers in Britain since the start of the current war. These subsonic aircraft have been in service with the U.S. Air Force since the 1950s and have participated in missions from Vietnam to Afghanistan. The B-52 can carry nuclear weapons as well as conventional air-to-ground munitions.
Simultaneously, four supersonic B-1 bombers have also been stationed at the Fairford base since Friday, capable of carrying up to 24 cruise missiles. This base, with its 3,000-meter runway, allows for the landing and takeoff of these massive aircraft, attracting the attention of journalists and local residents.
