The US Imposed New Sanctions on Iran Due to Escalating Nuclear Tensions

The United States imposed new sanctions on Iran due to escalating nuclear tensions.

Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State, announced in a statement on Thursday, June 27, which is one day before the presidential election in Iran, that several companies involved in the transportation of Iranian oil and petrochemical products, along with their associated ships, have been sanctioned.

The U.S. Secretary of State issued these new sanctions against Iran in response to the continued escalation of nuclear tensions.

Blinken stated that Iran has taken steps in the past month to further expand its nuclear program in ways that do not have a credible peaceful purpose. We are committed to never allowing Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon and are ready to use all elements of national power to ensure this outcome.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations in New York has not yet responded to this comment.
