US Opposes Joint Gas Pipeline Plan Between Iran and Pakistan

The United States opposed the joint Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

Donald Lu, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, said in a meeting of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee, ‘We are in contact with our Pakistani partners.’

The U.S. opposes the Iran-Pakistan gas project, stating that this project does not benefit Pakistan and is not significant enough for major international companies to invest in.

Islamabad should seek alternative solutions instead of the Iranian project, and clean energy production is an effective solution that the U.S. supports.

We are monitoring the Iranian gas pipeline project and are looking for Pakistan to consider non-Iranian energy projects.

Washington has not received any request from Islamabad indicating their desire for a sanction waiver, so the U.S. continues its efforts to deter Pakistan from the Iranian gas project.
