U.S. Reaction to Ebrahim Raisi’s Remarks: Everyone Should Be Free to Choose Their Attire
The U.S. State Department has responded to Ebrahim Raisi’s comments regarding the enforcement of mandatory dress codes in Iran.
Matthew Miller, in a press briefing last night, stated in response that the United States believes everyone should be free to choose their own attire.
Referring to Ebrahim Raisi’s remarks, he said, as we have stated before, we believe that women in Iran and everywhere should be free to choose whatever attire they want.
He added that Iranian women should not have to worry about government officials using surveillance technology or other methods to exert control over them.
He further stated that the United States has taken and will continue to take actions to support human rights and fundamental freedoms for the people of Iran, including women and girls, and to work with its allies and partners to hold those responsible for human rights violations accountable.
According to Iranian media, yesterday Ebrahim Raisi, in a speech to government supporters, said the issue of unveiling will also be resolved, and there is no need to worry.
