The United States sanctioned Iran’s Minister of Intelligence
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced in a statement on Friday, September 9, that it has sanctioned the Ministry of Intelligence and Seyed Esmail Khatib, the Minister of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Part of this statement reads
Today, the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Treasury Department has placed the Ministry of Intelligence and Security of Iran and its Minister of Intelligence on the sanctions list due to engaging in cyber activities against the United States and its allies. In July 2022, cyber threats assessed to be supported by the Iranian government and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security caused disruptions in Albania’s government computer systems, forcing the government to halt online services for its citizens.
