Use of the word ‘martyrdom’ on the tombstone of Rostam Ghasemi
The use of the word ‘martyrdom’ on the tombstone of Rostam Ghasemi, the former Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, has sparked reactions.
Iranian media reported last December that he had died from cancer in China.
Now, media in Iran have raised the question that with the engraving of the word ‘martyrdom’ for Rostam Ghasemi’s death, it raises the question of what happened to him in China that led to his martyrdom.
Rostam Ghasemi, who was considered one of the senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was in charge of the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters. During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency, he was also the Minister of Oil, and the United States had sanctioned him.
In the last message he posted on the Twitter account attributed to him before the news of his death was released, he wrote that throughout my service, from the military battlefield to the economic battle, I tried to be a loyal soldier of Iran and a servant to you, dear people, until my last breath and honor. I ask for forgiveness from the noble people of Iran for all the shortcomings during my tenure.
