Vahid Vatani: The Phenomenon of the Economic Corruption League

Vahid Vatani, a phenomenon in the league of economic corruption

Vahid Vatani, a phenomenon in the league of economic corruption, is the son of Mohammad Ali Vatani, a senior official in the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. He emerged through connections with the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, enabling him to profit significantly from the transfer of foreign currency earned from oil sales abroad. He also managed to control the office of the commander during this period through close ties with Aziz Jafari.

Establishing connections with the foreign system of the Ministry of Intelligence for the transfer of Iran’s blocked currencies and oil brokerage to circumvent sanctions are other indicators of his penetration and infiltration into the military security system.

Having special relations with the Supreme Leader’s office through his father, Mohammad Ali Vatani, who was a trusted economic advisor in the office and the closest person to Mohammad Javad Iravani and Ali Aghamohammadi, this connection has been passed down as a legacy from father to son. Additionally, by creating a special relationship with Mohammad Golpayegani, the son of the head of the Supreme Leader’s office and also the son-in-law of Mohammad Javad Iravani, he has further solidified his position.

Family friendship with Mokhber, the first vice president of Raisi’s government, and collaboration with him in the currency field is his area of influence within the government. He has special and familial relations with Saeed Khoshghesht, who is related to the Supreme Leader through Ayatollah Khamenei’s wife and currently holds a key position in the Central Bank.

Vahid Vatani’s father was known as the spiritual father of economic managers or, in other words, the godfather of economic managers. Considering Vahid Vatani’s connections, which have been maintained and even strengthened after his father’s death, the impact of this influence is clearly evident in the appointment and dismissal of senior banking, currency, and petrochemical managers, supported by the Supreme Leader’s office and the security system.

However, this privileged offspring also has friendship and camaraderie with Mohammad Shariatmadari, a member of the board of trustees of the Executive Headquarters of Imam and an influential figure in the country’s security and economic system and reforms.

An important point is the mentioned individual’s influence and connections in the previous government through Asadollah Vatani, the brother-in-law of Hassan Rouhani, and Hossein Fereydoun, Rouhani’s brother. This is where the mentioned companies, including Samin Exchange at Andarzgoo Crossroad, known as a governmental and Revolutionary Guards exchange, benefited from special privileges and access to foreign currency resources from oil sales abroad. Despite being the main figure behind multiple trust companies abroad, he has left no trace of himself and manages his economic cartels, which are focused on currency, in a mafia-like manner.

Commander Rahimi, the head of the economic police of Faraja, is a special supporter of Vatani and provides him with security immunity. Vahid Vatani has a personal bodyguard from the police protection of individuals without holding a job position that warrants such protection. Nevertheless, he travels in Europe like other corrupt offspring, without any concern for his illegal activities in his economic ventures.
