Verbal Tension Between Iran and UAE at BRICS Meeting

Verbal tension between Iran and the UAE at the BRICS meeting

Iranian media say the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic accused the United Arab Emirates of direct involvement in military operations against his country at the BRICS meeting in New Delhi.

This tension occurred a day after the UAE rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim of traveling to this Gulf country during the Iran war.

The Mehr News Agency quoted Araghchi as saying, ‘For the sake of unity, I did not mention the UAE in my speech at BRICS, but the truth is that the UAE was directly involved in the aggression against my country. When the attacks began, they didn’t even condemn it.’

Iranian media did not specify what statements the UAE representative made at this meeting.

According to these reports, Araghchi also said that neither American bases nor an alliance with Israel have brought security to the UAE, and this country should reconsider its policy towards Iran.

Araghchi had previously stated that those who cooperate with Israel to create division will be held accountable.

The Iran war began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28 of last year, and Tehran responded by launching missiles and drones at American bases and other targets in Gulf countries.

The Wall Street Journal published a report on Monday indicating that the UAE conducted military operations against Iran in early April. Western and Iranian officials have also said that Saudi Arabia has conducted multiple undisclosed attacks against Iran.

Iranian media have also expressed doubt about whether the participants at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in India will be able to issue a joint final statement, as the differences between Iran and the UAE continue.

In this regard, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, was quoted as saying that due to the UAE’s presence at this meeting, there have been problems and consultations.
