Voice of America and many federal agencies have shut down
Voice of America announced on Wednesday, October 1st, that its broadcasting has been halted due to the lack of budget allocation and the suspension of U.S. government activities.
The United States government shut down a major part of its operations starting Wednesday.
This event is the result of intense disagreements between Congress and the White House over budget approval, presenting the country with the prospect of a prolonged and costly deadlock that could lead to the loss of thousands of government jobs.
This shutdown is the fifteenth U.S. government shutdown since 1981, and government officials have warned about its consequences, including the suspension of the September employment report release, slowing down of air travel, suspension of scientific research, cessation of military personnel payments, and mandatory furloughs for about 750,000 federal employees.
It is said that this shutdown imposes a daily cost of about $400 million on the U.S. economy.
