IOC Warning to Iran
The President of the International Olympic Committee, expressing deep concern over the discrimination against Iranian athletes, has warned the Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic to ensure full compliance with the Olympic Charter.
The news outlet Inside the Games, which covers IOC news, reported that Thomas Bach held a meeting with the President of the Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic after the execution of Mohammad Mehdi Karami, a national karate champion and one of four people executed for participating in anti-regime protests.
The report stated that intense discussions about Iranian athletes took place, and the Iranian side was confronted with the IOC’s emphasis on the participation of Iranian athletes in competitions without any discrimination against their competitors.
Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa, a long-time bodyguard of Ali Khamenei, now holds the presidency of the Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic and was summoned to Switzerland at the start of his sixth month in office to receive the warning.
