Wasting 30 Trillion Tomans on Reviving Lake Urmia

A Futile Expenditure of 30 Trillion Tomans for the Revival of Lake Urmia

The former head of the Lake Urmia Revival Headquarters says that the Ebrahim Raisi government has allocated only about 3% of the funds for the lake’s revival, putting the entire northwest region of Iran at risk.

On Tuesday, May 30, Isa Kalantari explained in an interview with ILNA that most people have realized that if the lake does not exist, the entire economy of the region will be destroyed, and yet, environmental protection has no place in the country’s macroeconomics.

He added that about 30 trillion tomans have been spent in rials from the country’s public resources or in foreign currency by withdrawing from the National Development Fund for the revival of Lake Urmia, but it has practically had no effect on improving the condition of the lake.
