What is Ahmadinejad’s hidden agenda?

What is Ahmadinejad’s hidden agenda? According to Iran Gate, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad set off for Guatemala at a time when many experts believe he has plans that will soon become clear. Some believe Ahmadinejad is preparing to run for the presidential election in 2025, while others speculate that he is determined to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with his characteristic persistence, finally managed to make his trip to Guatemala. This trip, which faced serious opposition from security agencies, has been met with significant criticism from Iranian political experts and observers. Nevertheless, the former president of Iran headed to Guatemala City, and what’s more surprising is that during this trip, no one knew where he was or what he was doing.

Guatemala, the Israel of Latin America

Guatemala is a small country in Central America that has had extraordinary importance in the realm of international politics for various reasons. This Latin American country, which borders Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador, has a population of 17 million and a land area of less than 109,000 square kilometers. But what is the significance of this small country on the international political chessboard?

In the literature of international relations, Guatemala is known as the Israel of Latin America. Although about 99% of the country’s population are Catholic, Protestant, and a few Orthodox Christians, with a very small Jewish community, the point is that traditionally, the governments in this country, regardless of left or right political orientations, have had very close relations with Israel. Furthermore, Guatemala is also known as the main base of the United States in Central America.

To illustrate the importance of this country, it is enough to say that in December 2017, Guatemala was the second country in the world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. This action, initiated by Donald Trump, was welcomed by only a few countries worldwide, but the then-president of Guatemala immediately announced in December 2017 that Guatemala recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and would move its embassy to Jerusalem.

What is Ahmadinejad doing in the Latin Israel?

Information available to Iran Gate indicates Ahmadinejad’s presence in Guatemala with electoral intentions. It is said that during this trip, he intended to meet with Americans and win their favor. On the other hand, there is speculation that Ahmadinejad’s trip took place just hours before Hamas’s attack on Israel, and he might have been aware of this event.

Many analysts believe that his insistence on making this trip at any cost was due to his knowledge of the Al-Aqsa Storm operation. An operation that has overturned all Middle Eastern equations and turned the tables for all regional players. However, overall, it seems Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is trying to fish in the troubled waters currently flowing in the Middle East. The unfavorable situation in Iran has also contributed to his renewed dream of the presidency.

Ahmadinejad has disappeared

However, the noteworthy point is that in recent days, no news of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been published in official media. Of course, the Telegram channel of ‘Dolat-e Bahar’, associated with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has published images of him at Mexico City airport and finally at Guatemala City airport. But it is still unclear what his intentions were and what goal he was pursuing on this trip.

Ahmadinejad hasn’t disappeared, but no one knows why he made this trip within 48 hours and whether he had any meetings with officials from Western governments during this time.

Investigations show that a trip to Guatemala is roughly a 26-hour journey, which can be reached with three flight changes from Tehran to Guatemala City. However, Ahmadinejad was on the road for over 48 hours, and his recent stop at Mexico City’s international airport has raised suspicions.

The repetitive story of Mahmoud and the elections

As stated, there is evidence indicating Ahmadinejad’s serious intention to participate in the 2025 presidential elections. Some even believe he intends to participate in the upcoming elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly seats. If such an assumption is true, it indicates his determination to seize the chair of the legislative branch.

However, reformist media activists and even hardline and moderate conservatives have reacted strongly to this proposition. A look at the tweets and articles published in domestic media suggests that neither political spectrum in the country is fond of him, and the likelihood of his qualification being approved in the upcoming elections is considered very low.

Therefore, it is said that his candidacy scenario for the elections is currently off the table. However, experience has shown that Ahmadinejad never acts without a plan, and if we are witnessing his activation in recent days, he probably has something in mind that will become clear to the public in the coming weeks and days.
