Secret White House Meeting for Senators Focused on Iran

The American website Politico reported that senior officials of Joe Biden’s administration will, for the first time, brief all senators in a confidential meeting focused on Iran on Tuesday, May 16, regarding the White House’s classified information related to Iran.

According to this report, Wendy Sherman, Deputy Secretary of State, Colin Kahl, Deputy Secretary of Defense, Morgan Muir, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Brian Nelson, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, and Steven Koehler, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, will inform the senators about the government’s policies and plans regarding Iran in this closed-door meeting.

According to Politico, absent from this meeting is Robert Malley, the U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, and his deputy, Abram Paley, will accompany Ms. Sherman in his place. Mr. Malley’s absence is attributed to his leave.

Wendy Sherman, who played a key role in the initial Iran nuclear deal during Barack Obama’s administration, announced last week that she will retire from diplomatic service on June 30.
