Reasons for Arab countries’ efforts to establish a ceasefire
The reason behind the Arab countries’ efforts to establish a ceasefire was shown in a video that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted on his official TikTok account earlier this year, depicting a group of orphaned children whose fathers had been killed in war, visiting his office.
In this meeting, Netanyahu showed the children an image of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound where the mosque was removed and replaced with a third temple or Ezekiel’s temple.
This image, which Netanyahu looks at every day in his office, helps shape the awareness and decision-making processes of leadership aimed at expanding Israel’s territory through annexing or controlling the West Bank and Gaza Strip and eliminating any possibility of a Palestinian state formation.
Therefore, it was interesting to hear last week that Ayman Safadi, the Jordanian Foreign Minister, emphasized that 57 Arab and Muslim countries are willing to ensure Israel’s security in exchange for the creation of a Palestinian state. In addition to the Palestinian issue, Israel has caused significant harm to the entire region, including countries that have normalized their relations with Tel Aviv, leading to public unrest in those countries.
Nevertheless, despite the increase in Israeli settlements and unprecedented attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the lack of a political horizon in Arab countries to normalize relations with Israel continue, it may be believed that improving relations gives Arab countries more leverage to pressure Israel to establish a Palestinian state. However, the reality is quite the opposite.
Netanyahu wants to show how he has managed to normalize relations with Arab countries without solving the Palestinian issue.
Furthermore, in Israeli political culture, there is a deep belief that Arabs only understand force. So, while the statements of the Jordanian Foreign Minister last week highlighted the precarious situation and the importance of stability in the region, Israel still sees itself as a villa or perhaps a fortress in the midst of a jungle.
Zionist ethics believe that life is necessary with the sword, and Arabs are fundamentally different. A clear example of this is the self-governing Palestinian organizations. Despite coordinating with Israel on security issues for decades, Israel continues its relentless efforts to weaken them.
Contrary to Netanyahu’s claims, Israel knows that Arabs are not only not a threat to it, but if necessary, they will also defend Israel, as they did in two missile attacks by Iran.
All of this is happening while Israel is led by a person who is widely perceived as a Machiavellian leader who will do anything to cling to power. Netanyahu takes advantage of the current conflict to relentlessly strike at the four Arab regions of the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen with his grand ambitions.
He misleads the Arab world with false promises of peace that are not on the table.
Although Sefdi has proposed an agreement to ensure Israel’s security, Tel Aviv refuses to refrain from any turmoil in the region unless Arab countries take tangible steps such as recalling ambassadors, cutting diplomatic ties, and setting red lines for exerting pressure.
