Why was Leila Hosseinzadeh arrested?

Reports from Iran indicate that Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student activist, was arrested yesterday by security forces in front of her home in Tehran and taken to an unknown location.

It has been stated on social media that this arrest involved 10 officers and was accompanied by severe beating of Ms. Hosseinzadeh.

Leila Hosseinzadeh is a student at the University of Tehran and was one of those arrested during the protests of December 2017. She was sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals on charges of assembly and collusion with the intent to act against national security.

She served part of her sentence in prison and was released due to being diagnosed with a terminal illness, which qualified her for exemption from serving the remainder of her sentence.

It is noteworthy that this student activist was also arrested last December during a trip to Shiraz and was then transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
