Widespread protests by Jordanians against fuel price hikes

Tens of thousands of people in Jordan marched in various cities of the country on Friday, December 16, in protest against the rising prices of fuel and essential goods.

According to Reuters and Al Jazeera, the nationwide protests were held a day after the truck drivers’ strike expanded in the southern city of Ma’an.

In the events of Thursday night in Ma’an, which were accompanied by violence, a police officer was killed, and young people attacked government properties and urban facilities. The officer killed was the deputy police chief of the city.
