Will the snapback mechanism be activated against Iran?
Kourosh Ahmadi, a former Iranian diplomat at the United Nations, said that what decision the Board of Governors will make on March 6 depends on whether any progress is made during Grossi’s visit to Tehran.
Even an incomplete but meaningful progress could lead the parties to acknowledge that some advancement has occurred, and in that case, it is unlikely that the board will decide on March 6 to refer Iran’s case to the Security Council.
Political and international conditions, like the Ukraine war and whether the US and Europe can take the risk and implement the snapback and are prepared for its consequences, are political aspects of the issue that need to be decided upon.
