With the adoption of the Board of Governors' resolution, the Cairo agreement officially ended, says Araqchi

With the adoption of the Board of Governors’ resolution, the Cairo agreement officially came to an end.

Following the issuance of a new resolution by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency against the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi considered the Cairo agreement terminated and stated that after the adoption of the anti-Iranian resolution in the Board of Governors by the United States and three European countries, the Cairo agreement is officially considered ended by Iran.

Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, on Thursday, November 19, in response to the issuance of the resolution by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, called the action of the three European countries and the United States in presenting this resolution illegal and unjustified. He said these countries, with their actions and disregard for Iran’s interactions and goodwill, have undermined the credibility and independence of the Agency and caused disruption in the process of interactions and cooperation between the Agency and Iran.

Araqchi also added that although after the illegal action of the three European countries in the UN Security Council to reinstate the annulled Security Council resolutions, the Cairo agreement practically no longer had a basis in Iran’s relations with the Agency in the safeguards domain, today it was officially announced to the Director General of the Agency that this agreement is no longer valid and is considered terminated.
