Zahra Rahnavard: Together, We Will Transition from Despotism to Democracy

Zahra Rahnavard: Together, we will transition from tyranny to democracy.

Zahra Rahnavard, a prominent figure in the protests against the controversial 2009 election, which became known as the Green Movement, expressed her condolences on Instagram for the killing of protesters in recent days.

Ms. Rahnavard shared one of her paintings, writing condolences for the loss of the nation’s youth. ‘Do not be afraid, do not be afraid, we are all together. Yes, together, we will transition from tyranny to democracy.’

She and her husband, Mir Hossein Mousavi, the candidate who contested the results of the 2009 presidential election, have been under house arrest for years.

Since the beginning of the recent protests in Iran, several cultural and artistic figures inside and outside the country have also expressed their solidarity with the protesters by releasing statements.
