Zaidabadi: The Principlists Opposed to the JCPOA Are Raisi’s Biggest Challenge
Although practical actions and even stances against the agreement have significantly subsided compared to Rouhani’s administration, the radical factions of the Principlists remain anti-agreement.
In this situation, Ahmad Zaidabadi believes that Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi has emerged as the common point among various Principlist factions and their consensus symbol for participating in the elections. Mr. Raisi’s heterogeneous and disjointed cabinet composition was essentially a demonstration of this relatively superficial consensus.
He continued, stating that in the short term, the biggest factor of discord among the different elements of Principlism is the revival of the JCPOA and how to confront this phenomenon.
Zaidabadi added that for the effective implementation of the JCPOA and benefiting from its advantages, the government is compelled to separate its path from the Principlists opposed to this agreement. The most significant internal challenge facing Mr. Raisi’s government in the future is indeed this. It is possible that this segment of the Principlists might attempt to revive the narrative of the reformists’ threat as a unifying thread for their faction’s components and engage in creating tensions in this regard.
