Zelensky: Direct negotiations with Russia will take place on Monday
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, confirmed that his country will participate in direct negotiations with Russia on Monday, June 2, to reach a ceasefire agreement.
Zelensky wrote on the platform X that in these negotiations, which will be held in Istanbul, the country’s Minister of Defense will lead the Ukrainian delegation.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine’s priority in these negotiations is to achieve a complete and unconditional ceasefire and also to return Ukrainian prisoners and kidnapped children taken by Russia.
The first round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was held on Friday, May 16, at the Turkish Presidential Office in Dolmabahçe Palace, Istanbul.
Although the Russian President himself proposed holding the negotiations, he did not personally attend the meeting and sent a low-level delegation led by Vladimir Medinsky, an advisor to the Kremlin, to Istanbul.
