Deployment of armed forces on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz

According to official sources, the Associated Press reported on the US plan to deploy naval forces on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Iran from attacking freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf.

This report, published on Friday, August 2, based on information from five US officials, further states that such a plan has not been implemented before.

Since 2019, Iran has seized several commercial and oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, and recently detained two oil tankers and made an unsuccessful attempt to seize two other ships.

In recent weeks, the US has attempted to establish freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf, through the deployment of F-35 fighter jets, as one-fifth of the world’s oil consumption passes through it.
