Iran condemns the cancellation of hosting the International Maritime Organization conference

The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the United States’ decision to cancel Tehran’s hosting of the International Maritime Organization conference and states that the U.S. has no limits in politically exploiting the technical institutions of the United Nations.

According to Mehr News Agency, Nasser Kanaani said, unfortunately, the U.S. government wants to cover up its illegal and unjust actions by resorting to lies, accusations, and misrepresentation.

Yesterday, the United Nations Maritime Organization rejected the request of the United States to offer the Islamic Republic of Iran the opportunity to host a specialized maritime session in October.

Iran had proposed to host the annual International Shipping Conference in 2015, and this proposal had been accepted by the Executive Council of the International Maritime Organization.

In its letters, the United States had announced that Iran had harassed, attacked, or detained more than 20 ships engaged in commercial activities in the past two years.
