Search for military helicopter passengers in Japan
The Japan Coast Guard announced on Friday that after one day of the disappearance of a military helicopter from radar screens, rescuers were able to find its parts in the sea.
Based on this, several pieces of the helicopter, including a broken blade and a yellow rescue boat that was still in packaging, were found in the waters north of Irabu-jima Island.
There are still no signs of the cause of this incident. The helicopter was on a reconnaissance mission in the area with 10 passengers. There is no information available about the fate of the passengers, and the search operation is still ongoing.
The Japanese army has previously witnessed such incidents. In January 2022, a Japanese fighter jet crashed in the central waters of Ishikawa, and two pilots were killed. In 2019, a radar-evading F-35 jet crashed into the sea after taking off from northeastern Japan during a training mission.
