The crisis in Afghanistan and the Taliban’s approach towards Shia women, their schools and seminaries, as well as the Helmand River issue, are serious matters that need to be addressed in 2023.
While maintaining communication and efforts to influence Taliban policies is necessary for Iran, it is important to note that being listed as a supporter of the Taliban poses a risk to Iran’s regional and global prestige and credibility. It also does not enjoy support from the domestic public, especially considering the fundamental differences in religious and ideological identity between this group and Iranian culture and civilization.
