UN Staff's Reaction to Taliban's Restrictions

UN employees’ reaction to Taliban prohibitions

The United Nations says that 3,330 Afghan men and women employed by the organization stayed at home for the second consecutive day on Friday in protest of the ban on female UN employees in Afghanistan.

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency session on Friday and called for the lifting of this ban.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric emphasized that the work of all UN employees is vital in providing life-saving services to millions of people in the country, and women cannot be replaced by men.

He said that the goal of the United Nations is to avoid a situation where women from other countries, where such work bans do not exist, take the place of Afghan women.
