The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran will reopen the Saudi embassy in Iran before the Hajj ceremony.
Alireza Enayati, the Director General of the Persian Gulf Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, told the ISNA news agency that the Iranian government is trying to reopen the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Riyadh and its consulate in Jeddah before the Hajj pilgrimage.
He said that as part of the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to reopen their embassies in Tehran and Riyadh and their consulates in Mashhad and Jeddah, a Saudi delegation entered Iran on Sunday and visited the Saudi embassy in Tehran. They are also planning to visit other facilities related to the embassy, including the ambassador’s residence and the consulate in Mashhad.
Mr. Enayati added that based on the information received from the Saudi brothers, this delegation will return to Riyadh to prepare for the reopening of the embassy and consulate in Tehran and Mashhad.
He also mentioned that two separate Iranian delegations will travel to Riyadh and Jeddah by the end of this week.
With the establishment of diplomatic relations, it is expected that the Umrah pilgrimage, which had been suspended, will be resumed.
